 I've had several recent additions to my list of names done in the aperture card and bookmark format so I thought I would repost with updates to the list! Simply Bookmarks

I have to say how much I like the simple but classic look of the Plantin Schoolbook bookmarks...my favorite way to do them is with a black background on a green border. The letter colors are either scrapbook paper or a part of a magazine page with interesting colors. I love the colorful mini tassels though I can't find them anymore...*sigh*...isn't that the way it is, you like something and then it's discontinued! Ugh!! Well I'll use what I have, no point hoarding them.

I also can't resist adding a little more texture by running the bookmarks through the cuttlebug with a couple of my favorite embossing patterns! Love the swirls!

Me & the bug

The Cuttlebug that is. I just got some new embossing folders and I find myself looking for things that need a new lease on life...bookmarks, cards, scrap paper!

Here are a couple of patterns...I like the one that looks like embossed metal. It's great for the guys versus giving the swirly look (though my husband didn't mind it for his bookmark) I didn't have the new pattern then.




I've had some general blank cards that have sat in the drawer. I liked the colors but they just seemed to lack something, so when I got my new patterns I decided to try and customize the front. I really like the look. After embossing I sanded lightly to bring the pattern to the fore. It changes it to more of an abstract design and I suspect I will be enhancing a few more card that have been lying around!

Here is a fun coffee cup and chef design in my SCAL image files...no charge for these images but please don't post them elsewhere. The cup is also available as just an outline file, too. I created the deco cup using the calligraphy pen feature of Inkscape, combining elements until I was happy with it...enjoy! Would love to see your designs with these files!

Designs using Inkscape and SCAL

Here are some bookmarks made using features of Inkscape and importing files into SCAL (Sure Cuts A Lot)

All of these files are available at the link in my sidebar "My SCAL .svg files."

One of the main advantages of SCAl is the ability to use true type fonts like the one I selected for "Cattitude." In SCAL you have options for tweaking the design with modes option:

Normal

Shadow

Blackout

Shadow Blackout

Mixed

However, with this font, I can't change it too much...I thicken it in the Shadow mode at "1." When I try higher numbers, it doesn't seem to recognize it...it says "Cutting is complete" but won't do anything...so I found keeping the number low allows me to cut it out.

I used Inkscape to weld it to a path so it would have a slight curve to the design. When using fonts in Inkscape you must select your copy and go to the Path drop-down menu and select object to path to convert the copy from text to objects so SCAL can read it. Cricut Bookmarks

Here are some of my recent bookmarks...I cut the letter out in the black card stock and select some pretty patterned design to go behind the letters and then cut the background in green.
